I knew a JW man who insisted that a young brother in the congregation marry the man's daughter because the two of them had gone door-to-door together. Apparently he thought his daughter would be tainted goods after that and no one would want to marry her.

Balanced!!!
by barbar inthe witnesses often talked about being balanced, but usually that meant do less of what you wanted and more "theocratic" things.
in fact if you spent 100% of your waking time in the ministry you would probably be viewed as a balanced person.. come to think of it witnesses are very unbalanced or extreme in their views.. any examples of how they are unbalanced?.

Can we just agree to say that let get rid of Happy Holidays, seasons greetings and say Merry Christmas!
Since you asked, no, we can't. Or at least I won't.
So many people want to be politically correct afraid to offend non-christians. I celebrate Christmas as a time of Jesus' birth, and a time to be happy, merry and get and give lots of presents.
I'll happily say Merry Christmas to you and to any and all who celebrate that holiday. But if I don' t know what holiday someone celebrates, why shouldn't I use a less specific greeting? And if I know they don't celebrate Christmas, what's the point of wishing them a merry one? It has nothing to do with political correctness. It has everything to do with courtesy and common sense.

Usually, when people say they’re not religious, they’re looking to pick a fight or at least start an argument.
And here I thought I was stating a fact. Good thing he's around to explain to me what my real motivations are, since they're clearly a mystery to me.

I just told her that it was a Jeh. Wit that abused me and my child. She tex back saying "A real one" I tex back saying "Jah made him elder so yes he was real"
Of course, anytime a JW does something bad, they just say, "Oh, he wasn' a real JW, or he wouldn't have done that." Even if he was an elder.

I can laugh about it today, but....
by delilah inyesterday was a crazy day!!
i woke up with a wicked migraine, took my meds, and went to work.
at noon, i took my husband to work and it was snowing like crazy...so i drove slowly...as i turned the corner, in the country, my car started to slide, and we did a complete circle, coming very close to hitting a hydro pole.

I'm impressed you can take your migraine meds and go to work. I take mine and go to bed. Don't get me wrong, they help, but I'm still out of action for at least a couple of hours.
The migraine may explain why you locked yourself out, actually.

Sex Within JW Marriage
by HereNorThere ini am trying to help my sibling who is a jw trying to get out, living in a loveless, unsatisfactory marriage.. her husband makes and expects her to perform oral sex on him everyday and makes her feel bad if she doesn't.. he won't return the favor nor has any desire to please her back.. is not, oral sex in this religion regarded as unclean ?
or is it allowed?.
i hope someone has some input on this, as this may be something to help her get out of the marriage .....

She doesn't need grounds to leave the marriage. She needs grounds to leave the marriage while remaining a JW. She needs to decide whether she wants out of her marriage enough to make the hard choice of leaving the congregation. If she doesn't, there's not much you can do for her but listen and be there for her.

E-mail from friend alerting me to emergency instruction from GB
by Wasanelder Once inhere's a paragraph from a friend who is active.
they say it's important that we fill out this form about emergencies... poor fools.
"hi, i have been meaning to tell you that the society is telling us to fill out an emergency form that the book study conductors have and return it to them in case of an emergency.they will then give us a brochure to have that will tell us where to meet and what to have in our bags so we can grab them and leave in a hurry.

Interesting that the scanned form asks whether each member of the household is baptized. I'm not sure how that's relevant to providing assistance in a disaster.

It's like they think women are inferior and incapable of being intelligent and productive in the real world.
Well, yeah, that's pretty much exactly what they think, despite their denials. At least the inferior part.

Anyone else feel like an emotional mutant at this time of year?
by tall penguin ini've been attempting to infiltrate my friend's christmas traditions in an attempt to understand and appreciate the holiday.
i only had christmas until i was 5 when my mom converted to jw.
before that, christmas was really big in our house.

It took me a while to really get into it. Then I had a kid, and that helped.
We're agnostic/atheist (depending on when you ask us) UUs, my daughter's dad is Jewish, and the friend who usually joins us for the holidays is pagan. So we celebrate several holidays. My daughter calls it Chrisolstukkah.
